My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Safir Senduk probably may not be Indonesia's first financial planner, but he certainly is the first financial planner who popularize the subject of financial planning and make it accessible as a general household topic.

His Seri Perencanaan Keuangan Keluarga (Family Financial Planning Series) covers wide-ranging personal finance topics from investment to child education fund and retirement. My review this time is on his topic of insurance, which he dubbed Mengantisipasi Risiko (Anticipating Risk).

In this book, Senduk introduces readers to the basic purpose of insurance, that is to cover risks which could render an individual's finance in disarray. He counters the popular myths of insurance in Indonesia -- such as its association with gambling -- and points out the most common mistakes people make in purchasing insurance products, like taking too much coverage or too little.

I like Senduk's Financial Planning Series because of its topic-specific material, conciseness, and sufficient case studies. While calculation examples made in his book can be too aggressive or too conservative, readers are expected to understand the concepts and apply them to their own respective financial cases.

This book is published in Bahasa Indonesia. My particular edition has the author's signature in it even though I bought it from Gramedia's book shelf.
Pas lagi sibuk ngasih stempel diri (kentara narsis & posesif), gue nemuin buku Kumpulan Cerpen Kelas 1-A SMU Islam Al-Azhar 1 (1996/1997).

Mendengar jawaban Pak Said, Bu Inah tersenyum seraya meninggalkan Pak Said, tetapi sebelum ia membalikkan badannya ia berkata dengan ramah pula, "Kalau begitu, saya duluan ya Pak?" Pak Said tersenyum dan membalas, "Baik, silakan Bu."

Bel berdentang lima kali, tanda pergantian pelajaran.

With a revamped indrayudha blogspot, I've also added Pages into my sidebar navigation.

I intent to use Pages as complementary space to further classify my postings into specific topics. Since my blog spans into multiple categories which can take me to write a topic into multiple postings across periods in no particular order, it should help to put them into a specific Page. The Page in question then acts as an anchor, a static index pointing out to the topic's postings which already been scattered in the blog.

Categories and Labels do help in classifying blog postings, but there will be instances where the topic is specific enough to warrant its own Page. As my first Page, I have posted My Investment Portfolio Allocation where I put my postings on the securities I use to build my retirement portfolio under my own framework of 5 themes of asset allocation, which I had thought of a year ago.Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-32824235079957943132010-03-29T19:35:00.041+07:002010-03-30T20:55:12.547+07:00New Template: WatermarkThe first time I wrote a post in 2004, I was using Blogger's Snapshot Tequila template, with green-colored theme. Three years later, I overhauled my blog. Employing Blogger's No. 565 template at the time. Today, three years after, I make-over my blog yet again.

I have asked the question since 2007, on when Blogger would update its template portfolios as they became stale very quickly. Lo and behold, they gave the answer couple weeks ago. And such an opportune time, as I had been contemplating on the redundancy of keeping two blogs. Well, Blogger has bought itself a new lease on life. I'm keeping my homepage for sure, now powered by Wordpress CMS. But, I'm also keeping my Blogger still.

I use a new template, Josh Peterson's Watermark, on a theme color traditional to all incarnations of this blog, green. Starting today, until perhaps, 2013?Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-69803997534969598002010-03-16T19:15:00.000+07:002010-03-16T19:15:44.417+07:00(Almost) 90 Days Looking for Love?A former colleague from work, who happens to be a close friend, invited me for lunch couple days ago. I knew it wasn't going to be a catch-up session, and I was right. She was confused, about her love life, a very recent fling.

She was just recovering from a failed relationship, the one where the other person left for a marriage with somebody else. Not that the guy was committed in the first place, but that was not the point. Another man showed up just in the right time, offering comfort, or so what everybody thought. I know the guy, not too close, but he was also a former colleague from work. He was not much of a difference, less commitment and more confusion. A fight ensued several days before, and the relationship was in an awkward position. Neither one of them want to make the first reconciliation move.

I told her what was on my mind given the situation. I talked left and right, but she summarized it best on her own. A simple and objective, but unfortunately a bit cold truth. It was almost 90 days, but the two of them had not figured out what they want from the relationship. I have been in a "going-nowhere" relationship before, and I realized that it should not take too long to make up your mind. If neither one of you are sure, then was it worth fighting for?

Love is not always smooth, lasting love requires sacrifices and some ego-busting. Love does not recognize ego, but that does not mean you don't have self-worth. Love got tested most often during tumultuous time, when sacrifices are required. When one party gives up too easily, then does the test tell you something? If the love is worth fighting for, then both of you will fight to defend it. Lower your egos for each other, but remain respectful of each other's self-worth, and of your own.

And lastly, your loving partner will chase for your affection. Motives may be in question, but there will be times when motives got tested. When you love your partner, you will fight for her love, and when you know what you want from your relationship, then both of you will fight for your love to each other.

The talk wasn't that succinct, but she helped me out sharpening it. Good luck to you, my friend. May that lasting love come after you very soon! All that you find along the way are part of the journey.Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-43207694380021041572010-02-21T22:15:00.006+07:002010-02-21T22:20:50.398+07:00A Year Later, TwitterOne year and 2,605 tweets later..

I didn't realize it has been one year since I jumped at the microblogging bandwagon. A tweet was directed to me earlier this afternoon by @jak_twop_1000, which I thought at first to be a machine, but turned out to be conversational. My foray at the Twitter world turned out to be fun (aside from the occasional "floods"), and very useful. I have been using Twitter mostly as news aggregator just like Google Reader or similar RSS aggregators, that's why I didn't tweet that much (you think 2,605 is a lot? well, wait until you see my 10,000+ tweets of my friends, yeah those in just a year).

The way the aggregator thing works is that I follow several Twitter accounts belonging to news station and field experts. Therefore, all I need to do in mid-afternoon at work or night at home is just look at their tweets to get the latest updates and links. I can then follow the link to a more comprehensive writing. For this purpose, I use a software application instead of directly read them from Twitter. This is because Twitter has limited showings and it takes a bit long to show more tweets. Plus, the app I used allows me to flag the tweets I like but rather read it some other time. The software I used is Socialite by Realmac, which was EventBox before they got bought by Realmac. Honestly, I kinda like EventBox better because it had less bugs and caused less stress.

Second, I also use Twitter as bookmark, like del.icio.us. The way it works is that I put a favorite star on those tweets I like to bookmark or tweets those articles I found on the web myself. This is why my tweets are dominated by finance and investment related news and websites.

What's for the next one year? Well, more or less the same I think, unless I got the sudden urge to post more of my original writings. Until next year...Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-31062711826892896762009-11-18T21:26:00.007+07:002010-03-19T21:56:50.114+07:00Vote Earth!A global election is taking place, between Earth and Global Warming. The event is named 'Walk the World', one of the biggest global events against hunger. The WFP walk in Indonesia is also sponsored by the national philanthropy organization Dompet Dhuafa.

WFP's school feeding programmes provide meals to over 20 million children each year, giving them the food and the motivation they need to go to school and build a better future for themselves.

Alternative to 'Walk the World' is 'Walk the Web', where each dollar donated on 'Walk the Web' counts as a mile walked, with WFP's target to achieve 25,000 miles walking distance around the world. I am unable to join the walk itself today, so I've made a small donation, with a glimmer of hope, that it'll make a difference in the life of a hungry child.

Looking forward to join again next year. See if you can find my photo in the Wall Against Hunger, if not, look closely.Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-36871941267461161392009-03-29T10:09:00.064+07:002010-03-21T01:48:42.105+07:00Earth Hour 2009Yesterday night, my friend and I observed the 2009 Earth Hour, from 20:30 till 21:30, Jakarta's time. Along with us, 83 countries the world over were participating, turning off lights for an hour to raise awareness of global warming.

In Jakarta, the local government committed to turn off the lights in 5 of the city's icons: the City Hall, the the National Monument, the fountain of Arjuna Wiwaha, the Youth Statue at Senayan, and the Welcoming Monument at Hotel Indonesia roundabout. I suppose you can guess where I was from the video?

And this is the scenery when all the lights were turned on again:

I know there are some of you out there questioning the purpose of such event, and if it could really curb climate change. Well, directly? It's not nearly enough.

The event was held to raise awareness for the public at large of efforts that can be done to stop global warming, and to raise their curiosity of climate change, its dangers, and measures to be taken to save the planet.

For the act was so simple, yet done en masse it would put a dent in the amount of carbon emitted in one day. Imagine the possibility of more complex, concerted, and conscious efforts could have done?Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-79060921446142437202009-03-06T10:36:00.004+07:002010-04-07T21:00:43.121+07:00The Big FreezeI came across a video on Financial Times website. The video is a report by investment editor, John Authers, on the financial crisis that has hurt the world's economies, developed and developing alike. A financial crisis that was rooted from the US subprime mortgage sector.

As Mr. Authers said, it may started from US subprime mortgage, but the implication is far and wide. Financial companies are collapsing, bringing with them others in different industries. As purchasing power hit by streams of layoffs, profits across the board are tumbling down. In an interconnected economy, the effects are felt globally and rapidly.

As Americans spend more than they earned, fueled by ever-increasing debt, the momentum has carried them deep in debt. So deep, that it would take years to unlever it. Historically, housing price has always been increasing, but in drying demand caused by mortgage defaults, price no longer holds. Since the price is declining, would that increase further defaults as people holding mortgage higher than the actual price of their homes?

James Melcher of Balestra Capital, called the subprime mortgage meltdown a year ahead, profiting tremendously from crisis. Mr. Melcher believes that the worst may have yet to come. People are desperate to believe the market has bottomed, that it can only go up from now on. Opportunities to profit?Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-20958573134703236532009-02-28T21:01:00.000+07:002010-02-21T21:25:15.808+07:00Twitter BadgeI found out this neat Twitter widget which allow me to link my tweets (yes, that's a new word thanks to Twitter, meaning my posts on Twitter) to my blog here in Blogspot. First, I tried to put it on the sidebar, just as it recommended. But, it is likely to be missed if it was on the side, and it can lengthen the page for individual blog post, making wasted layout.

So, I decided to put it on the top. Yes, it will show on individual blog post as well. However, it won't mess out with the layout, plus individual blog post reader will be aware of the tweets as well. It didn't take long for the whole process. And the colors can be adjusted to Blogger's easily.

I also linked my tweets to my Facebook. Since I don't want to flood my Facebook status with my tweets, I put the badge on Facebook's Boxes tab. Because I think those that want to be flooded by my tweets will follow me, instead of being "pushed" by Facebook's status. I put it on the Boxes tab so just people will know of its existence.Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-36715142385967413972009-02-21T20:45:00.031+07:002010-02-21T21:00:01.554+07:00Microblogger of Choice, TwitterSo, after several of my friends jumping into the microblogging bandwagon, I followed suit. Since most of them are on Twitter, therefore it is the logical choice for me to choose the same. Remember? network effect?

It was four months ago since I contemplating about the move. I haven't got any idea yet what to write so it'll probably gonna be some daily activities for the first few posts or so, until I figured out what and how can I best use it for my needs.

In case you want to follow me, my Twitter address is http://twitter.com/indrayudha. See you there.Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-72940862549519817782009-02-14T11:32:00.029+07:002009-02-19T19:06:21.705+07:0025 Random Things (About Me)So I got tagged in my Facebook with this 25 random things list. The rule goes: once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you; at the end, choose 25 people to be tagged; you have to tag the person who tagged you; if you have been tagged, it's because I want to know more about you.

Here's the instruction to do the tagging in Facebook: go to "notes" under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the app, though I don't think I can make it to 25) then click publish. So, here they are, the 25 random things in no particular order, except one (hint: posting date).

Well, let's see, this Butterfly Award is a meme. Therefore, I need to pass it on to several other bloggers (the rule says I can send it up to ten others, but I think I'll choose less). Oh yeah, about the rule:
I could have gotten away with only two of them (core equity and core debt), but where's the fun? The five themes are as follow:

Core Equity Holding - Geographic

This theme will act as the core holding for equity in my portfolio. As mentioned in my previous post the other day, the maximum allocation for equity is 62%. As I get older, that allocation will decrease to reflect declining tolerance toward risky assets.

It's based on geographical diversity to achieve the widest market coverage in fewer instruments.

Due to its sizable holding, this theme will pretty much steer the direction and movement of the whole portfolio. Its allocation will be the first to be reduced for any addition beyond core equity and core debt.

Yield Producers and Cash Equivalent (a.k.a. Core Fixed Income/Debt Holding)

This is the core holding for cash and debt instruments in my portfolio. In conjunction with the core equity holding, the allocation for these instruments should be 28% (remember, rule 90). Consequently, that allocation will increase as I get older to reflect increasing preference toward safer assets.

This theme will act as the ballast for the whole portfolio. As such, it should give stability to the volatile movements found in other themes.

As the "safest" holding, I'd rather leave its allocation alone after what had happened to my portfolio in 2008. I would consider its reduction only after taken into account the reduction I've made in the core equity allocation first.

Satellite Equity Holding - Sectoral

The satellite equity holding is intended to enhance the expected return of the core equity holding. Its risk profile is higher due to its more concentrated holding and higher return expectancy.

It is based on sectoral diversity to give the theme more flexibility for fine-tuning and re-balancing, while still maintaining its "spicy" sector bets.

Obviously, allocation enlargement in this theme will reduce the 62% I've allocated in the core equity theme.

Alternative Assets

Alternative asset will act as the main diversifier for the portfolio as a whole. This is because alternative asset is expected to have low correlation with the other themes in this portfolio.

As the wild card, alternative assets are expected to work in conjunction with the other themes both as a return enhancer and a volatility stabilizer. By itself, alternative assets can be highly unpredictable.

By far, this is the most difficult theme to assemble due to the limited instruments available for retail investors and my limited experience in this type of investment. It should be most interesting area to explore, albeit gradually.

Green Investments

Green investments, in this case, are meant for socially responsible investment (SRI) instruments not falling into one of the other themes. As a rule, instruments chosen to represent the other themes, especially core equity and core debt, should be of SRI alternatives including shariah-compliant instruments. Once they're exhausted, further SRI consideration should be placed here.

Depending on the weight of its instruments, this theme can be very volatile, even more than the satellite equity holding due to its extremely concentrated sectors.

Allocation for the green investment include the 10% in philanthropy account. Thus, a 100% allocation for all the five themes can be made.

There you go, five themes for the retirement porfolio. Although it may be spread over different accounts, the retirement porfolio should adhere to these five themes, which can be a laborious effort. I didn't know of any easier way at this point, but I guess I have to make do with Excel for the time being.Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-34522783462550249002009-01-16T23:49:00.083+07:002009-02-16T23:05:58.306+07:00Sistem Jaminan Sosial, Peluang dan Tantangan[After visiting Farid and Erisa's blog on their published writings of Shariah bond, I got inspired to post my own published writings here. After all, it is also an opportunity to post my original writing as I had intended, without the editor's cut. There is also the added benefit of hyperlinks through this medium. The article was published on Kompas, 22 December 2008. It's about the opportunities and challenges presented by a new regulation over social security in Indonesia, especially one affecting the pharmaceutical industry. Sorry, it's in Bahasa since it was published on Kompas.]

Model Dasar Kebijakan Pelayanan Kesehatan (Health Care)

Menurut T.R.

Keempat, model biaya sendiri (out-of-pocket).

Sistem Jaminan Sosial Nasional

Dampak Terhadap Sektor Farmasi

[So very briefly, the early steps toward providing social security for the people of Indonesia, especially in the health care provision, will open up new opportunities for pharmaceutical industry as enlarged business volume can be expected as a result of increased government expenditure. However, such volume expansion will be limited due to relatively smaller fund allocated for the initiative compared to the neighboring countries in ASEAN. Furthermore, potentially only state-owned pharmas who would benefit from the initative as the government would be able to exert its "single payer" power over generic drugs. Further risk concerning the limited fund may result in declining service quality and/or quantity. Such an important issue should be under public scrutiny coming this election year. Voters may influence the future of their health care benefits, that is if they can start being critical with their candidates' policies.]Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-36341972321337824272009-01-10T23:14:00.004+07:002009-02-15T23:42:06.220+07:00The Aspen Institute Guide to Socially Responsible MBA Programs 2008-2009 The Aspen Institute Guide to Socially Responsible MBA Programs by The Aspen Institute
This Guide is different from the ones we have accustomed seeing on the store's bookshelves at the education reference section. The Guide does not attempt to rank any particular programs, instead it provides information on each of the 130 graduate business schools around the globe.

The information is particularly relevant to prospective students looking for Green MBA programs. On average, each school is profiled in 2-page spread with stats including relevant topic courses offered, numbers of relevant activities, and demographics. The Guide also profile the relevant programs each school offered, including popular courses, relevant majors, students clubs, annual activities, and available centers of research.

While prospective students, especially those with green value inclination, will find this Guide very useful, other guides should be consulted as well. This Guide should be used as a supplementary and not a core MBA guide.
I have been thinking of an appropriate portfolio allocation model following the wrath of the crisis that have wiped half of my portfolio value. As I have tinkered in different accounts mixing different asset classes, I have found something that further confirmed the mainstream adage of "don't put your eggs in one basket". It turns out that my 529 account which hold the most bond allocation (some 30%) have declined the least, while other equity-dominant accounts have fared worse, some actually fell by 60%.

Fortunately, I still have the bulk of my accounts, set aside for further schooling purposes, in safe cash-equivalent instruments. Therefore, no adverse impact caused by market gyration. However, the Rupiah depreciation of some 20-30% last month have caused heavy burden on my side to continue saving for school. Thus I've decided to postpone further schooling for at least another year, bearing economic stability.

By taking lesson from the crash, I've come to believe more in the virtue of diversification, extending to debt-instruments. According to the popular advice of the Vanguard founder, John Bogle, one should have bond allocation proportionally to one's age. This simple allocation model advocate for picking a number (as a proxy to one's life expectancy) and substract it with one's current age (as a proxy for bond allocation). The result will be the appropriate allocation for equities in one's porfolio. While aggresive investor will use 110 or higher as the basis, the rule of thumb is to use 100. For example, a 40 years old should have 60% of his portfolio in equity and 40% in bond (100 - 40 = 60).

With slight modification, I've decided to use 90 as my basis. The idea is to put 10% of my portfolio in a managed account to generate continuing benefit for philanthropical purposes. The 10% allocation is arbitrary and exclude charitable expenses. Examples of financial instrument for this account might be a special-purpose mutual fund (like what I had wrote sometime ago), or a self-managed microfinance account. With that in mind, my portfolio allocation should be 62% equity and 28% bond. It seems that I've had larger equity proportion than I should, to my detriment. I'll try to reach this allocation for my retirement portfolio by mid-year. Wish me luck!Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-19630122074504219062008-12-30T22:07:00.000+07:002009-02-15T21:35:10.362+07:00The 100th PostingUnbeknown to me, my postings in this blog have reached 100th. A bit lame, if you asked me. The blog has been around since 2004 and I only manage to get 100 postings. It could have been more (though I can always resort to the 2006 debacle of being an MT and only had time to write two postings for the whole year; hah, what an excuse!).

I've been through some consolidation recently. Putting closure for two of my other blogs and resuming another one, who had been abandoned for awhile. I guess I have my work cut out for me in 2009, with a goal of getting the average yearly posting up to 25 (from 20 currently), and running the wheel on the website again. Here's to (hopefully) an exciting 2009, and a new chapter in my life! Cheers, and Happy New Year!Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-29551534084573255482008-12-01T00:21:00.000+07:002008-12-01T00:21:00.766+07:00I Finally Found Someone
[My review is on Bahasa (Indonesian) language. The review was originally intended for publication in an internal corporate newsletter. Since it is unpublished, I've decided to use it for this purpose instead.]

Buku ini telah berkembang dan pada edisi berikutnya mengulas mengenai bagaimana menjalin hubungan berdasarkan tipe kepribadian pasangan Anda -- Just Your Type: Create the Relationship You've Always Wanted Using the Secrets of Personality Type -- dan bagaimana mengasuh anak berdasarkan tipe kepribadian mereka -- Nurture by Nature: How to Raise Happy, Healthy, Responsible Children Through the Insights of Personality Type.
Wi-fi connection works like a charm, and I get to sit near a power socket. I can wait for hours, I guess. Okay, so what did I do today? Well, my nephew, Syahan, just had his first birthday celebration this morning.
I got a task of documenting the party, using my brother's camcorder. Lots of guests came with their kids. We had this party designed and decorated with a theme of Madagascar, coinciding with the movie release earlier this month. Games and magic shows kept the kids entertained, while foodstalls (consisting of bakmie ayam, bakso, sate ayam, and sop buah) kept the adults busy. Har har..
It had started earlier in the morning, and since I couldn't make it last year, I had to come to this year's event and see what it's all about. I arrived just shortly before they split the event into parallel discussions. I attended the Mari Jadi Blogger Yang Kreatif! (Let's Become a Creative Blogger!) with speakers Yoris Sebastian and Raditya Dika. They shared their experience in claiming their identities in the already blog-infested virtual world, building and leveraging their creative energies, their successes and failures, and their future endeavors (a movie based on Raditya's blog, Kambing Jantan, is scheduled to be released in 2009).
I walked down the Thamrin lane to Grand Indonesia. Bought a novel at Gramedia (yup, a compilation of blog postings, strangely, of an anonymous writer). Had a dinner at Gado-Gado Boplo. And ends up at Arabusta Coffee. Waiting for my friend. I just had my speaking engagement earlier this afternoon. Pfew!

Okay, about two weeks ago, I got a phone call from the organizer, one Mr. Jannis Kostoulas, the managing director of the Mare Forum. The Mare Forum are organizers of Mare Forum conferences, specializing in conference management, project development and policy marketing. They bring together policy makers and chief executives of an industry to have dialogue and debate so everybody can be on the same page in strategizing business and deciding on policies. Today's Mare Forum conference held in the Four Seasons Jakarta was discussing about the maritime industry, and was titled Maritime Indonesia 2008.

The conference was attended by some 140 guests (as told by the organizer), mostly from the shipping industry, both Indonesian and foreigners. There were three large groups as I had observed: shipowners, shipbrokers, and financiers. Other small groups were lawyers, analysts, journalists, and none from the government. Quite a dissapointment since a lot of the discussion needed the government's perspective as the policymaker. But their absence is understandable, since the policymakers would almost certainly be put in a hot seat. Nonetheless, the conference moved on ahead with minor delays on the schedule.

I was scheduled to present my case shortly after lunch. The topic of my presentation was regarding cabotage. Cabotage is a hot topic in the Indonesian shipping industry. It presents an opportunity for tilting the balance of the bargaining power toward the shippers and away from the charterers. I think the future landscape of the domestic maritime trade will be at the favor of the shippers due to implementation of the cabotage law. Of course, holding the premise that it will be implemented, and on time. My presentation have been archived by the Mare Forum here.

Why did I choose to present a topic on cabotage, much less on maritime trade? Well, I think the organizer felt strongly about the cabotage issue, and I happened to write an article about it on the Jakarta Post. They even admit to have invited me because of that article.

Overall, it was a good experience for me, a change of pace from my daily work in the cubicle pondering the state of my valuation (sigh). I met a lot of people here, and a fellow Indiana alumn (yeah, a small world after all).Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-67746956308163209282008-11-15T09:15:00.001+07:002008-11-25T21:51:58.781+07:00Pegawai Virgo[Sabtu pagi kok malah ngomongin kerjaan. Yah, iseng-iseng lah sekalian nunggu nyokap selese ngaji sebelum berangkat lagi ke sinshe lagi siang ini. Batuk akut gue udah berkurang drastis sih, ngga ada malah. Hebat tuh sinshe, ramuan herbalnya manjur gila! Yah, rencananya sih ke sinshe mo ngambil ramuannya lagi, at least buat seminggu lagi deh, mungkin aja kan belum sembuh bener.

Anyway, gue pernah dikirimin email nih ama temen kantor gue. Biasa lah, kan sering kedapetan tuh, either email kaleng, humor, gosip, game, berita, ato isengan kaya gini.

Tapi apa iya sih emang bawaan?

Terus, apresiasi kerja emang perlu banget sih. So, yah, oke sih nih "ramalan". Banyak kenanya. Anyway, nyokap dah dateng nih, berangkat dulu ya...]Mr. Yhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15954669105698537898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8292736.post-89122110921127647702008-11-14T22:47:00.000+07:002008-11-24T21:38:19.680+07:00Dragonfly's Thursday Industrie - Finance & Co.About a month ago, a strange email landed on my inbox. An invitation from a guy named Andi, to be a host for the next Thursday Industrie event held at Dragonfly. Hmm.. must have known my email address from my business card (yeah, I got this habit of dropping my business cards in the glass bowls of various establishments I had visited, hey, you might get an invitation like this..).

A host in this event functions more as a person who invites his/her friends to come over, not as an emcee (a lot of people had asked me about it, so I guess I better explain it beforehand). As a token of gratuity, Dragonfly provides a table and a free bottle for the first round of drinks. Dragonfly regularly throw up this Thursday Industrie event for people working in a particular industry so they can mingle, network, and have fun. They rotate the industry periodically between several different industries such as finance, entertainment, public relations, music, fashion, etc.

So about two weeks ago, I accepted Andi's invitation after consulting with several of my co-workers (hey, I need to know if people would come to this event before I agreed for my name to be put as a host there). Andi turns out to be the "party officer" at Dragonfly, and he just sent me the invitation poster four days prior to the event. Luckily, I had told my friends and let them know ahead of time (it's not a weekend event, so chances for us finance people to come to a party mid-week is a bit slim, yeah right..).

So I emailed the invitation out, and lo and behold, another co-worker is also named as a host, Muti. She was surprised her name was even there, and quickly emailed tons of her friends to come for the event. It was put on Facebook as well.

So I came a bit earlier (hey, they told me the event started at 8 PM and when I came at 9.15 PM, no one had showed up at my table). As the night turned late, more people showed up. All in all, the two major groups attending the event were from Citi and Danareksa. Cool.
